Inspired by the beach and equipped with years of experience in the garment industry, allan colvin knew what it would take to create a niche in the swim and active wear marketplace when he started manhattan beachwear over 25 years ago. Step one was obtaining the license for an established brand, which colvin did with surf buddy hobie alter, of hobie surf. Years later, he then eliminated competition by acquiring apparel ventures inc, a mutli-brand, international apparel company. In 2014 he expanded manhattan beachwear's portfolio by acquiring cmk manufacturing, a leading active wear manufacturer. As the largest manufacturer of swim and active wear in the us, manhattan beachwear produces 18 million garments per year. Recently expanding into a state-of-the-art 75,000 square foot manufacturing and design hub in cypress, ca, as well as a brand new, ultramodern 200,000 sq ft distribution center; in addition to their bi-coastal headquarters and global sales force. Manhattan beachwear has a mixed roster of proprietary brands and holds the license for several of the most sought after labels in the marketplace. In addition to brand label business, the company has a significant private label business with top industry retailers.
